Community foundation
Empowering nonprofit communicators through strategic training
A community foundation serving nonprofit leaders across six counties needed communications training that worked for small teams and small budgets. We built an interactive session around message, mission, and momentum — and sent every organization home with a custom AI messaging snapshot.
Outcome
Messaging templates still in daily use across a six-county cohort
Timeline
Capacity-building cohort session
Scope
- Strategic messaging audit
- Audience mapping & trust-building content prompts
- Digital presence evaluation (web, social, print)
- AI messaging snapshot via custom GPT
The challenge
The foundation's partners were nonprofit leaders across a six-county region, most of them running communications with tiny teams and limited budgets. Consistency across channels was nearly impossible.
The recurring pattern: unclear brand messaging, outdated or missing digital presence, few storytelling tools, and very little confidence in their own communication strategy.
The approach
Message — clarifying internal identity through brand character, audience segmentation, and storytelling frameworks including the Pixar method.
Mission — auditing digital and printed materials, then reframing websites, social, and outreach as mission delivery systems rather than marketing fluff.
Momentum — demystifying AI as a strategic partner for planning, content, and accountability, with a custom GPT-generated messaging snapshot for each organization to apply immediately.
Every recommendation was filtered for high impact and low cost, and paired with ready-to-use templates: quick response, brand messaging, and storytelling frameworks.
Results
- 01Participants reported feeling seen, supported, and equipped to act regardless of team size or budget
- 02Mission summaries and belief-based core messages created in-session went live on new websites
- 03Cohort members named the marketing session one of the most valuable parts of the program
“The customized handouts and messaging templates were especially helpful. I still consistently use the mission summary and belief-based core message created in that session — they both appear on our new website.”
